The Town of Pescosolido, Italy
The town of Pescosolido is located in the province of
Frosinone and the region of Lazio, 100 kms south-east of Rome. Nestled
630 meters above sea level, overlooking the city of Sora, Pescosolido
is a small hill town of 1,500 people.
It has a long history. In the Middle Ages it was
a fortified medieval town with four doors and
a Palace, residence of the Boncompagni Dukes. The earthquakes of 1653
and 1915 brought so much destruction that the ancient medieval area was
almost wiped away.
Today,
the town is dominated by the Church of Saints Giovanni Battista ed
Evangelista. Other items of note are the monuments to San Pio da
Pietrelcina and to the Madonna delle Grazie. Pescosolido is also
home to the Chiarenzo springs, with healthy, therapeutical waters.
